Payment Methods for GitHub Copilot in India

I'm interested in subscribing to GitHub Copilot, but I'm unable to use the currently supported payment methods (PayPal and international credit/debit cards). There are no alternative payment options available for users in India, as UPI or domestic card payments are not yet enabled. Is there a timeline for when Indian payment gateways, UPI or domestic cards might be supported?

Do you need an international enabled bank account with PayPal?

No, I don't think you do. You just have to link a bank account or a credit/debit card to your PayPal account.

Step to get the co-pilot via upi

1. Download the GitHub app on your mobile.
2. Log in to your GitHub account.
3. Go to Settings and tap on the Subscription tab, then select Copilot.
4. A Google Payment screen will pop up; choose your preferred UPI ID and complete the subscription payment.
5. Use the same GitHub ID to log in to the Copilot extension on VS Code.

PS: You can also do the same for getting the chat-gpt subscription

FYI - This option of Gpay/UPI is only on google android phone, on iOS its different(Uses apple subscription payment)

It's renamed and available under
Settings > Co pilot>
Then Apple subscription service will ask us to verify the auto subscription in our upi app(phonepe in my case)

Do you have the copilot extensions? I suggest watching their
Get Started with GitHub Copilot in VS Code (2025) YT video.

Have you logged in into your GitHub account on vscode? If you don't see copilot icon by default, go into vscode extensions and you'll get github copilot there. Install it and log into your account.

Hey everyone,

As of today (August 6, 2025), I’m using the latest GitHub mobile app on Android, but I couldn’t find the “Subscribe to Copilot” option anywhere. I’ve already tried:

Still no “Subscribe” button under Settings → GitHub Copilot. Is mobile subscription in India on Android not supported yet? Or am I missing something obvious? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated—thank you!

You already have a Github Copilot Pro subscription according to your subscription section in the screenshot attached 😊.
See your subscription section in the screenshot you uploaded.

Yes even if you are subscribed, you still need to make the monthly/yearly payments, and there is no way to make one time payments anywhere. (cards are declined)

Anyone got any solutions? I've tried updating multiple cards in the payment options settings, all are getting declined.

Currently, GitHub Copilot only supports international credit/debit cards and PayPal. UPI or domestic-only cards in India aren’t supported yet, and GitHub hasn’t announced a public timeline for enabling Indian payment gateways. The best option is to either use an international card/PayPal, or keep an eye on GitHub’s official updates — new regional payment methods are usually announced in the GitHub Changelog
or billing docs once they go live.

Even Debit cards with International transactions enabled are also not working for me

If your debit card has international transactions enabled but still isn’t working, it’s likely because GitHub’s billing system accepts only certain card networks (mostly Visa/MasterCard credit cards) and PayPal. Many Indian debit cards, even with international usage enabled, fail on recurring international payments. The safest workaround is to use a credit card that supports international subscriptions or link a PayPal account. Unfortunately, there’s no official support yet for UPI or most Indian debit cards.
