How do YOU use NetBox Services and Service Templates?

Hey, I have been browsing a bit in the issues and discussions and there are a few requests to change the Services in NetBox

I think a lot of the suggestions make sense, but I'm not even sure how I would use that functionality as it is right now.

So I was wondering, dear community, if anyone could share some "success stories", usecases and PoCs of how you implemented the Services in your environment :3

so everything those FR's talked about is now possible to do yourself via netbox's new "custom objects" plugin (currently in public preview)

you can now just use custom objects to create a many to many relationship with ports/protocols and create a new 'applications' custom object and build them yourself.

while it would have been great if netbox's services and service templates supported this natively, with custom objects you can now build the model exactly how you want it and tailor it to your environment.

i mean, okay but my question remains. I'm curious if there is anyone who could share a "success story" on how they used the base Serivce model in netbox

In Netbox v4.4 this was renamed to "Application Services" to better represent its use case.

I guess it is clear to me now?

Basically like a network endpoint..?

I'm not sure why it has to be specifically a layer 7 endpoint, but I might be able to work with that in the future.
