GitHub milestones?

Would GitHub milestones https://docs.github.com/en/issues/using-labels-and-milestones-to-track-work/about-milestones ease the long time coordination of project initiatives?

Making the long term goals transparent would also help to:

• enable people to contribute in a controlled manner (aligned with your long term goals)
• enable people to estimate how good long term goals align with internal needs (which could be different and would require forking)

Long term goals do not have to be created as github tasks + assigned to github milestones. Alternatively they could be stated in some Roadmap section in the README.md e.g. This would not allow people to have the link to the implementation state however.

I agree that it would add some organization to it, definitely. The thing is, we haven't had a proper sit down in a long time. A lot of stuff has been introduced since pytm came out (Python data classes, this whole LLM thing, easy access to graph databases...) that probably justifies us all putting our heads together and deciding if we need milestones or perhaps it is time for a pytm NG.

Totally understand... it's just a bit difficult to estimate if you are fine with contributions or not. If you are not ok with contributions which are not in alignment with your wishes PRs would be a waste of time on my/our side.

I understand that and apologize. It is not "my" wishes - I want the discussions to be as open and inclusive as possible! If we decide something is the way to go, then that's what we do. But given that these things do need some measure of control, @colesmj and I are the "leaders" - but more like "benevolent dictators" than "this is what we'll do now and that's it".
