Requets in pool is always empty

I am playing around with request pooling. Very simple test:

        $apiServiceConnector = new VcApiServiceConnector();

        $requests = function () use ($lead) {
            for ($i = 0; $i < 50; $i++) {
                yield new LeadInitialDataRequest(['lead' => $lead->id]);
            }
        };

        $pool = $apiServiceConnector->pool($requests);
        $pool->withResponseHandler(
            function (Response $response, $key) {
                info("Handling response for key: {$key}");
            }
        );

        info('requests', [$pool->getRequests()]);
        $pool->send()->wait(true);

But i never get the requests to be sent. The info statement always logs empty requests:

[2024-09-17 09:42:58] local.INFO: requests [{"Generator":[]}] 

Is there anything basic i am missing? Do i need to start my queue workers? I tried using an array instead of generator as the requests but same result.

Here is the relevant part from my compose.json file:

        "laravel/framework": "^10.8",
        "saloonphp/laravel-http-sender": "^2.0",
        "saloonphp/laravel-plugin": "^3.0",
