• I'm a Python beginner working on calculating azimuth angles (converting latitude/longitude coordinates to directional angles). However, when I print the calculated azimuth results or write them to a CSV file, garbled characters (like "ø" instead of "°" for degrees, or random symbols) appear. Here's my key code snippet:

import math                                                                                                                       
def calculate_azimuth(lat1, lon1, lat2, lon2):

    lat1, lon1, lat2, lon2 = map(math.radians, [lat1, lon1, lat2, lon2])
    delta_lon = lon2 - lon1

• I've checked: 1) My Python version is 3.11; 2) The CSV file is saved with UTF-8 encoding. Could anyone help explain why the degree symbol "°" becomes garbled? And are there standard practices for handling angle unit formatting in Python to avoid such issues, especially for beginners?"

Are you sure you are passing encoding="utf-8" when opening the file?

Maybe you should try with : \u00B0 instead of "°"
This will print the correct symbol with hexadecimal unicode .
